About The Play

AvaTina wrote The Saddest Girl in the World in late 2007 after working and volunteering with immigrants and ESL students throughout the fall. Touched by their stories about the frustration of finding a job in Canada, the struggle to forget a traumatic past, and the reality of being separated from family, Tina decided to write a play that highlights the contemporary immigrant experience. The play was dramaturged by Kathy Parsons, who very skillfully guided the writing process and drew out key elements of the story. The Saddest Girl in the World is co-directed by Dirk Van Stralen (The Woodsman, Cariboo Magi) and Kathy Parsons (A Bright Particular Star).

In the Summer of 2008, The Saddest Girl in the World
had its world premiere at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival, where it was very well received. Follow the journey on Tina’s blog.
